How to change mouse pointer - Windows XP

This post is an detailed expansion of an old post - Change cursor (mouse icon) which lacked details. To change the mouse icon or pointer to something different from the default for Windows XP:

Step 1: Click on the start button then click on control panel

Step 2: In the control panel, click Printers and other hardware which contains a mouse button (see screen shot below):

Step 3: In the next window, click the mouse icon (see screen shot below):

Step 4: In the resulting pop-up, click the POINTERS tab and then select the pointer you desire, scrolling down to see more options if required (see screen shot below):
